The
Project Management Institute is an
international, non-profit professional
association representing project managers. Organized into 200 chapters in 125 countries, PMI now
has 200,000 members from a variety
of sectors including aerospace, automotive, business management, construction,
engineering, financial services, information technology, pharmaceutical and
telecommunications.
PMI
sets project management norms, organizes seminars, training programs and offers its own
professional certification (Project
Management Professional - PMP).

The global PMI congresses combine workshops, conferences, fairs and networking
along a different theme every year. Four major regions are covered: Europe,
the Middle East
and Africa (EMEA); North America;
Latin America;
Asia/Pacific.

A variety of opportunities are provided to collaborate and exchange with other
companies regarding project management.
- Professional
standards
- PMBOK: A
Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, published by PMI,
outlines the best practices within the project management discipline. Also
available in French.
- Certification:
Since 1984, PMP (Project Management Professional)
has been the leading credential in the field. In 1999, PMI was the first
organization to obtain ISO 9001 recognition for it.

1. Pre-requisite to pass the PMP
exam:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent +
36 months' professional experience in project management over eight years + 35
hours of training in project management
or

College or high school diploma or
equivalent + 60 months' experience in project management over eight years + 35
hours of training in project management
2. Request for authorization to test
letter
3. Sit for exam in the year following
the receipt of the authorization to test letter: Computerized multiple choice
exam with 200 questions – Pass grade: 61% - Maximum of three attempts

awards program
Each year, PMI recognizes professionals having
contributed to the recognition and development of project management and of
PMI. Prizes are awarded in three categories:

Services rendered to the
profession and to the Institute
In addition, the Project of
the Year is awarded to a team for outstanding project execution, management and
performance.
PMI posts jobs on its Web site and those of its
chapters. It also organizes an annual career event for project management jobs
called PMI Career Connections.
PMI in Canada
PMI has 17 chapters in Canada: Vancouver, British Columbia, Southern
Alberta, Northern Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Canada's Technology
Triangle, Southwestern Ontario, Lakeshore, Southern Ontario, Durham
Highlands, Ottawa Valley, Montreal, Quebec City, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia
and Newfoundland-Labrador.
Each chapter has its own organization, with its own regional events and
